A Front Entry Door Adds Value to a Home

Consumers believe an attractive front entrance not only adds to a home’s curb appeal but can also boost its perceived market value, according to a national study commissioned by Therma-Tru.

The study, conducted by an independent research company, found that a home with an enhanced Therma-Tru entryway added to its perceived value by as much as five times the cost of the door itself.*

At a time when homeowners are looking to get the most out of every dollar they spend on their home, installing an attractive new front entryway is a cost-effective investment that can have a big impact.

Wood Entry Doors vs. Steel Entry Doors vs. Fiberglass Entry Doors

Even after 25 years, fiberglass remains the most advanced material for entry doors—able to satisfy both today’s and tomorrow’s homeowners by giving them the look of wood doors and the strength of steel doors, without the compromises of either. In fact, fiberglass doors offer just what homeowners want—the optimum combination of security, energy efficiency, performance and aesthetics. Therma-Tru not only pioneered the fiberglass door category, but continues to lead the industry. Learn about the limitations and advantages of some common door materials below.

Wood Doors

Limitations

  • Expensive
  • Absorbs moisture
  • Can peel or bubble out
  • Can bow, warp or twist
  • Will fade
  • Not energy efficient
  • Requires regular maintenance

  • High-end look
  • Scratches easily repaired
  • Warm feel and touch

Steel Doors

  • Easily dented
  • Scratches can lead to rust
  • Paint chipping can be common
  • Conducts temperature; cold or hot to the touch

Advantages

  • Lower maintenance
  • No cracking or bowing
  • Less expensive
  • Energy efficient
  • Good insulating value
  • Secure

Fiberglass Doors

Limitations

  • None

Advantages

  • Lowest maintenance
  • Resists denting and scratching
  • Offers wood grain & smooth finish look
  • Won’t rot, deteriorate or rust
  • Energy efficient
  • Can be painted or stained
  • Won’t wrap, bow or twist

Your Window World of Atlanta Questions, Answered

Entry Doors FAQs

Why choose Window World of Atlanta Entry Doors?

Window World of Atlanta has partnered with Therma-Tru® to offer you a wide selection of the most popular doors available today with some incredible added features. Year after year building professionals rank Therma-Tru brand as the one they use most and recognize Therma-Tru as the most innovative company in entry door and patio door systems.

Can I customize my entry door?

Our broad offering of door styles combined with a wide array of paint, stain, glass and hardware options ensures that every homeowner will find an entry door to satisfy their own personal style.

Are Window World of Atlanta entry doors protected by a warranty?

Every replacement entry door is covered by Window World’s remarkable lifetime warranty. There is no better way to make a good first impression on company than a beautifully designed entry door.

Is steel or fiberglass the better entry door?

Fiberglass doors come with greater energy-efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and scratch resistance and durability than conventional steel doors. For these reasons and more, we only offer Fiberglass entry doors here at Window World of Atlanta.

How do you measure an entry door?

To measure the size entry door that you need, first, measure the width of the door frame. Next, measure the height of the door frame. Afterward, measure the thickness of the door to get the full dimensions.

How do you paint an entry door?

To paint your entry door, you can either remove it from its hinges or paint it standing upright. Start by laying a coat of primer, and then apply your coats of fresh paint. Ensure it is neither too hot or too cold when you paint, as this can affect the final product.

At Window World of Atlanta, we carry entry doors in a wide, diverse range of colors, so you can choose your perfect color the first time around.

How do you adjust the threshold on an entry door?

If you want to adjust the amount of light that passes through the bottom of your entry door, you can adjust the threshold. To adjust the threshold on your entry door, adjust the screws depending on the direction that you want to go. To raise the threshold, turn the screws counterclockwise. To lower the threshold, turn the screws clockwise.

How do you further insulate an entry door?

To add additional insulation to your entry door, add weather stripping around your door to limit excess airflow. Some types of doors include natural insulation while others don’t. Wood doors, for example, expand or shrink as the temperature fluctuates, so weather stripping wooden doors can be more difficult. However, Fiberglass doors can insulate your home more efficiently because they contain foam. Additionally, Window World entry doors are installed with weatherstripping seals already in place.

How do you adjust an entry door?

To adjust your entry door, follow the steps below:

1. Cut under the hinge
2. Disconnect the hinge and the jamb
3. Place a piece of cardboard under the hinge
4. Reconnect hinge and jamb
